Dear Dr. Robertson:

I just attended the graduation of the son of a friend from SMC.  Naturally his family and I were pleased that he had accomplished such a step in his education and we both looked forward to the award ceremony.

As I looked over the Commencement booklet I was dismayed to see that Antonio Villaraigosa had been selected to deliver the principal address.  I must tell you that I was even more disturbed to hear your effusive praise for Mr. Villaraigosa in what amounted to a shameless political endorsement.  Judging by the comments from those around me I was not the only one so troubled.

Perhaps you were not aware of Mr. Villaraigosa's position with regard to the laws of this nation.  If that was the case then you may need to become more educated yourself.  As you so clearly pointed out, education is a lifelong process.

Mr. Villaraigosa is a founding member of MECHA, one of the most brazenly racist organizations imaginable, whose stated goal (one he has never repudiated), is the transfer of the American Southwest to Mexico.  In less politically correct times such a statement would be correctly called seditious.  The word still applies.

While in public office he has continuously disregarded the very constitution he swore to uphold by aiding and abetting the invasion of this state by illegal aliens, by trying, again and again, to provide public services and privileges to people not entitled under the law to receive them, to those who have entered this country against our laws.

There is a reason why such people are rightfully called "illegal aliens".   The term clearly denotes the difference between those who have immigrated in compliance with the laws of this nation and those who hold those laws in total contempt.   The reference is one of legality.   In plain English, a criminal. (Incidentally the crime is classified as a felony).

We often speak of how great this nation is.  Inevitably we are told that ours is a "free" country.  That we live in a "unique" land of opportunity.  In truth both assertions are specious.  The United States is one of the most regulated nations on the planet, nearly every facet of our daily lives is dictated by some arcane law.

As for opportunity,  every developed nation has it's share of millionaires.  Hong Kong, before the Chinese takeover, was the most liberal nation on earth from the standpoint of business opportunity.  What, therefor, one may ask, makes this country so special.  The answer is that we are a nation where everyone is equal under the law.  In that, and that alone, we are totally different from all others, and without that we would be no better than any third world country.

Unfortunately, most Americans fail to understand just what it is that makes us unique, and those who would enter this nation against the law certainly have no idea of the stature and respect that we give to law here.  Indeed, illegals from Mexico come from one of the most corrupt places on earth, where it is virtually a tradition to suborn the law.

Because of the support that your chosen speaker has given to those who spurn the United States and our institutions,  you were ill advised to have selected him to deliver the principal address.  To have heard a blatant endorsement for such a man coming from someone of your stature was truly sad.

It is my sincere hope that you profit from the spirit with which I was imbued during my own stay at SMC, and begin to do some learning about the person you so lightly trust with the future of this State.  Don't confuse his ambition and glibness with character and patriotism.

With all our flaws we remain the finest nation on earth.  We can remain so only if we elect people to office who have sincere respect for the laws of this Republic.   Mr. Villaraigosa  has proven that he is not such a man.  I sincerely hope that you will reach the same conclusion after dispassionately looking at his record.

Sincerely,

Name Withheld
